Coastal Delaware with its sweeping coastline along Sussex County, stretches from Fenwick Island on the State Line with Maryland, up the coast past the quiet family resort of Bethany Beach, over the Indian River Bridge to the entertainment center of Dewey Beach and then on to the artistic hub Rehoboth Beach. The long established town of Lewes, founded by the Dutch in 1631, and proudly claiming its title "The First Town in The First State" opens up to the swamps and wetlands of Cape Henlopen State Park. Historic fire towers dot the beaches as you drive up Rt 1, relics of another time but there still to remind us of the possible threat this beautiful part of our country was responsible for monitoring during WW2. The historic nature of the area gives way to a unexpected number of museums and WW2 historic artifacts. Hotels and restaurants abound, and many new residential areas have appeared over the last decade as the slower pace and tax benefits of the area attract retirees. With the Ocean to the east, and the Bays to the west, you are never far from water and recreational opportunities.
