Coastal Delaware, consisting mainly of summer beach destinations, has far more events during the summer months than it does during winter. But each year, additional festivals are added to accommodate its growing full time population, making it a destination worth visiting year round.

November Rehoboth Beach Downtown Holiday Sing Along and Tree Lighting on Friday November 25th at 6.30pm. Get yourself in the holiday mood as you gather at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand for the Holiday singalong at 6.30pm, followed by the lighting of the tree at 7pm. More information at 302.227.2772.
December Painting with a Purpose to Benefit First State Animal Center and SPCA. No experience is necessary to take part in this Painting with a Twist event to benefit SPCA. The theme is Winter Wonderland, and all are encouraged to let their artistic abilities flourish, no matter how limited, in order to raise money. For more information, call 302-313-5769
January First State, First Day, First Hike at Indian River Inlet Bridge and Coin Beach. Start the year as you wish to go on with a healthy walk across the Indian River Inlet Bridge. It could well be chilly, so dress appropriately. Children over age 6 welcome. Event starts at 1pm at the South Inlet Day Area, and the distance is 1.5 miles of moderate difficulty.
February Lewes Legends Tour. Discover some of the rich history associated with Lewes as the Lewis Historical Society take you on a 90 minute walking tour of the town including a visit to one of the most haunted places in Delaware, the Cannonball House. Flashlights are recommended but children under the age of 12 are not. For more details, call 302-645-7670.
March is the month for the Great Delaware Kite Festival held at Cape Henlopen State Park. Celebrate the start of Spring with and amazing day full of kites, from demonstrations and contests, to kite and craft vendors. There will be food, and a lot of fun, no matter what your age.
April could be considered the tastiest month on the Coast, with the Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival. Taking place at the Rehoboth Convention Center, professional chocolatiers will display their skills in brownies, cakes, candies cookies, pies, and the always looked forward to showpiece. And the best part of the whole event is, you get to taste it all!
May brings us the Peace, Love, and Horseshoe Crab Festival, at the Dupont Center in Milford. This all day event invites children and their families to the Misspillion Harbor to discover the importance of this area as a habitat for horseshoe crabs and migratory shorebirds. Observe the wildlife, and participate in environmental eco-stations. there is fun for the whole family.
In June, Bridgeville Beer & Barrel Festival will feature local craft brewers, wineries, cideries and distillers from Delmarva – including 3rd Wave Brewing Co, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, RJ Baker Distillery, Crooked Hammock Brewery, Beach Time Distillery, Big Oyster Brewery, Harvest Ridge Winery and Rebel Seed Cidery, and more ! There will be unlimited sampling with a souvenir glass, and the opportunity to buy individual pours.
July has the Nanticoke Riverfest, in Seaford, a festival celebrating Nanticoke River. Float in on a tube and continue what is now a tradition at this festival. Cheer on your duck in the Duck Dash, or stay on dry land and take a walk around the Riverfest Car Show. Not to be missed is the Saturday evening Annual Boat Parade.
September brings the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival. With over 100 local and not so local artists, jewelry, glass, pottery, watercolor and oil painting, photography, basketry, woodworking, and more will be on display along the Boardwalk, around the Bandstand, and along the downtown streets of Bethany.
October is of course the month for the award winning Sea Witch Festival in Rehoboth Beach. This huge parade down the main street in Rehoboth is only the start of the festival. Trick or Treating, train rides, old fashioned beach games, little kids bike race on the Boardwalk, and live music from the bandstand, will keep you busy all day long.
